Like that Wierdboy, he's got the stats of an Ork Nob, not necessarily too bad. (especially for around the price of two marines!) He can also repair vehicles relatively easily, although as is normal for Orks, with a potentially disastrous risk! This is where his secret use comes in for me.
If he can repair a vehicle, AND take either a Burna or Power Claw, why not keep him in your transports? Yes, i know what your thinking... "Well. That was obvious." But thats only the tip of the iceberg. What if you put him in a open topped Battlewagon with 15 Burna Boys? I'd like to see even a marine squad survive 16 flamers! Although against heavier armoured targets, why not climb out of the Wagon and charge with 16 Power Weapons? :) Exactly.
Besides this obvious tactic, the Big mek also allows a Deff dread to be taken as troops. Yes, that means you CAN have a dread-mob AND those Dreads are Troops! This is where the fun seems to lie with Big Meks. Imagine an army with the Burna's, two Dreads and some boys for screening and distracting.
So next time your putting two Warbosses in your list, why not throw in a Big mek instead? Not only can he handle himself in combat, he'll make your vehicles last longer and potentially your troops (with the Shield generator) !
